Welcome Prospective Clients!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Single Mothers Student Success Scholar! Please carefully read the eligibility criteria before applying. Note: Meeting minimum eligibility requirements is not a guarantee of enrollment.

**ALL applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A single mother, 18-45 years of age.

  • Have at least one child age 12 or under, at the time of acceptance, living with you and receiving more than 50% of their financial support solely from you

  • U.S. citizen and residing in San Diego County

  • High School or GED graduate

  • Low-income and receiving public assistance (e.g. CalWORKs, Medi-Cal, TANF, WIC, Cal Fresh, etc.)

  • Have a consistent work history and working at least a minimum of 20 hours per week

  • Have not completed a vocational training and/or degree program

  • Able to attend and participate in SMSS: Session I and II workshops:

    • Session I: Arriving Ready for Academic Success (held every Friday for 16-weeks, from 11:00 am -1:00 pm)

      • Spring Session: January – April

      • Summer Session: July – October

    • Session II: It Takes a Village (held every 2nd Saturday of the month, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, ten workshops per year)

      • January – October

  • Upon completing Session I, be willing to enroll in an approved career related post-secondary institution. Minimum enrollment requirements are as follows:

    • Employed at least 20 hours per week: 9 semester units (or equivalent)

    • Employed 21 or more hours per week: 6 semester units (or equivalent)

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA per semester

  • Be responsible and responsive program participant

  • Agree to follow all program expectations
